It’s part of living in San Francisco: tonight on 7th Street at Brannan, a driverless Cruise car named Trumpet got confused by a row of cones. Some guys in reflective vests were setting out the cones, I think to make space for a construction project maneuver that needed the roadway for a while. There was room for cars to pass in the right turn lane but Trumpet didn’t think so, so Trumpet just sat still. One of the reflective vest guys gave Trumpet a comforting pat, and it didn’t help. Then he directed traffic around Trumpet. Someone walked by and said, “I think their computer’s broke down or something.” Finally Trumpet gathered the courage to start forward. The guy in the vest threw up his hands and watched the car go.
